Vocational Certificate in Hairdressing
Level 1 BTEC Certificate in Hairdressing
Exclusive training is provided in proper Saloon Environment. The Level 1 BTEC Certificate in Hairdressing is designed to provide:.
- a framework of education and training for those in the hairdressing industry
- opportunities for junior staff in the hairdressing industry to achieve a nationally recognised level 1 vocationally specific qualification
- opportunities for full-time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific
qualification to enter employment in the hairdressing industry or progress to further
vocational qualifications such as the NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing
- the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to provide effective support for
hairdressers
- opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major key skills and the wider
key skills in a customer relations context, such as improving own performance, working with
others and problem solving
- opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
Each unit identifies relevant aspects of the National Occupational Standards that are addressed
by the outcomes and content of the unit. This Level1 BTEC Certificate in Hairdressing relates
to National Occupational Standards for Hairdressing at Level1.
Core units:- Customer Care and Service, Basic Salon Reception Duties, Introduction to Health and Safety Issues, Introduction to Providing Hairdressing Services & Introduction to Assisting with Hairdressing Services.
Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Hairdressing
The Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Hairdressing is designed to provide:
- a framework of education and training for those in the hairdressing industry
- opportunities for junior staff in the hairdressing industry to achieve a nationally recognised level 1 vocationally specific qualification
- opportunities for full-time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the hairdressing industry or progress to further
vocational qualifications such as the NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing
- the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to provide effective support for
hairdressers
- opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major key skills and the wider key skills in a customer relations context, such as improving own performance, working with

Vocational Certificate in Beauty Therapy
NVQ level 1 in Beauty Therapy
Exclusive training is provided in proper Saloon Environment. The Level 1 NVQ in Beauty Therapy serves as an introduction to the Beauty sector and is
aimed at those who assist technical staff in the salon, as an introduction to the Beauty sector
or for special needs candidates. It is primarily for the 14 – 16 age group.
Mandatory Units
The candidate is required to complete all five mandatory units.
- Unit BT1: Prepare and maintain the beauty therapy work area
- Unit BT2: Assist with facial treatments
- Unit BT3: Assist with nail treatments on the hands
- Unit G1: Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
- Unit G2: Assist with salon reception duties
NVQ level 2 in Beauty Therapy
This is suitable for candidates who have achieved the NVQ Level 1 in Beauty Therapy or for those
who have some experience of the industry.
Mandatory Units
The candidate is required to complete all six mandatory units.
- Unit G1: Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
- Unit G6: Promote additional products or services to clients
- Unit G8: Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- Unit BT5: Provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments
- Unit BT6: Remove hair using waxing techniques
- Unit BT8: Provide pedicure treatment
Optional Units
Group B
- Unit BT4: Improve and maintain facial skin condition
- Unit BT4: Improve and maintain facial skin condition (achieved on female clients only)
- Unit BT7: Provide manicure treatment
- Unit BT7: Provide manicure treatment (achieved on female clients only)
Group C
- Unit G4:Fulfil salon reception duties
- Unit BT10: Plan and promote make-up activities
- Unit BT12: Extend and maintain nails
- Unit BT13: Provide nail art service
- Unit BT14: Pierce ears
- Unit BT15: Assist with spa treatments
- Unit BT9: Provide make-up treatment
Unit Combinations
To gain the full NVQ all six mandatory units plus two units from optional Group B and one unit
from option Group C must be achieved.
