1. It is College policy to meet all statutory requirements relating to health and safety and to apply the appropriate standards to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all College staff, students, visitors, contractors' staff and members of the public who are, or may be, affected by its activities.
2. The College bears the legal responsibility for all matters of health, safety and welfare within College and ensures that statutory requirements are met and appropriate standards applied through specialist College officers. The executive responsibility for the development and implementation of the health and safety policy is delegated to the Administrator
3. The management of Health and Safety is an integral part of good management at all levels of College organisation. This includes the provision of:
- Safe and healthy working conditions.
- Arrangements for the operation, design and maintenance of safe systems of work.
- Properly maintained and guarded machinery.
- Information, instruction, training, and supervision appropriate to College activities.
- Arrangements for consultation with staff and their representation on relevant committees dealing with health and safety matters.
4. Principals of Faculties and Heads of Department / Division are accountable to the Administrator for the proper implementation of health and safety policies and procedures in their respective areas and compliance with College and statutory requirements.
5. Those supervising work of any kind are responsible for ensuring that all activities under their direction do not jeopardise the College's compliance with the law.
6. It is incumbent on all members of the College and visitors to the College to recognise their own individual responsibility to be aware of, and to comply with, all health and safety requirements relevant to their activities.
7. This policy statement is issued to all staff and students and will be subject to periodic review in the light of experience and developments in national health and safety legislation.
8. The policy stament will be displayed in the college at all appropriate places.

ACLPolicy for Accident Reporting
ACL acknowledges that all accidents, regardless of their outcome, require investigation to determine corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence. To this end it is the responsibility of all employees , visitors and members of the public to adhere to this policy
ACL Display Screen Equipment Policy
ACL will take all reasonable steps to secure the health and safety of all employees working with display screen equipment.
The College acknowledges that hazards may arise from the use of this equipment and it is the intention that any risks are reduced to a minimum. It is appreciated that some employees may have genuine reservations and concerns about these risks and the college will seek to give information and training to enable a fuller understanding of these issues.
ACL Electricity At Work Policy
All reasonable steps will be taken to secure the health and safety of employees who use, operate or maintain electrical equipment. The College acknowledges that work on electrical equipment can be hazardous and it is therefore the colleges intention to reduce the risk as far as possible. where a problem arises related to electricity at work, employees must inform a responsible person immediately and the college will then take the necessary measures to investigate and remedy the situation.
ACL Fire and Emergency Evacuation Policy
ACL believes, in the event of fire, the safety of life shall override all other considerations such as saving property and extinguishing fire.
As far as is reasonably practicable all steps shall be taken by the College to prevent or minimize the probability of all causes of fire. The College acknowledges that despite these measures it cannot be assumed that fire will never break out. Procedures are implemented to minimize risks to employees and visitors which may result from fire.
The College does not require people to attempt to extinguish fire but extinguishing action may be taken if it is safe to do so.
ACL First Aid Policy
Policy statement
ACL shall provide adequate and appropriate first aid facilities and suitable persons who will render first aid to employees if they are injured or become ill. The degree of facilities and trained personnel will be in accordance to the findings from risk assessments carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
Procedures
1.0 In all areas where employees are working, first aid facilities shall be readily available.
• The Administrator will instruct employees under their supervision on the first aid arrangements in the workplace. New employees will also receive first aid information at induction into their area of work
• First aid kits First aid kits in the workplace are to be positioned in a prominent position and be readily AVAILABLE (NOT LOCKED)
• First aid kits will contain a sufficient quantity of suitable first aid materials to be able to deal with the type of injuries identified in the risk assessment. Contents of the kits should be replenished as soon as possible after use.
First aid stock can be requested via a form available on the College reception or by e-mailing info@acllondon.co.uk
First aid materials will be regularly checked to ensure expiry dates are not exceeded. The manager/ supervisor of the area to organise the checking and re-stocking of the first aid kits (recommended twice a term)
The contents of a first aid kit in most cases will contain the following
• guidance card
• twenty individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings
(assorted sizes) appropriate to the work environment(which may be detectable for the catering areas)
• Two sterile eye pads, with attachment
• Six individually wrapped triangular bandages
• Six safety pins
• Six small sized individually wrapped sterile unmedicated wound dressings
• Two medium individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings
• Three large individually wrapped unmedicated wound dressings
• 4 pairs of disposable latex gloves
• vent aid for resuscitation
• Adequate provision of first aiders
The minimum requirement is to provide an appointed person (a person who is competent to act in an emergency- need not be first aid trained) at all times when employees are at work.
In low risk areas a first aider per 50 employees in normal working hours is given as a guidance figure (Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981)
• Recording treatment rendered
All treatment rendered to employees / students / visitors will be recorded using the College Accident form.

All employees shall receive information on the College's first aid arrangements as part of their induction into the workplace as soon as possible from their employment date

ACL Fault Rporting Policy
Appliances that are found to be faulty should be removed from service, clearly labelled ‘DO NOT USE' signed and dated (it may be required to remove the plug to ensure it is not put back into service). The Administrator is to be informed.
Faculty/Staff Action – inform the Administrator to arrange repair or disposal . Contact Reception or the health and safety Officer if you need further information
ACL Smoking Policy
ACL undertakes to ensure so far as is reasonably practicable the right of non-smokers to breathe smoke- free air at work, whilst also taking into account the needs of those who smoke. The policy is not concerned with peoples right to smoke, but with where they smoke whilst at work.
ACL Insurance Policy
Purpose and Principles
1.1 The College wishes its employees and users to feel comfortable and secure during their activities.
1.2 The College will maintain adequate insurance for premises, employees, public liability etc. and review the level of insurance on an annual basis.
Procedures
In order to maintain cover the following actions are required.
• Placements Working in College
A letter should be sent to the person working as a placement and their sponsoring organisation (e.g. managing agent, school etc.) detailing the times and dates they will be on the College premises. Employees, students, and visitors are covered by the employer and public liability policies, without special authorisation to be on College premises being required.
• College Trips
Administrator & Principal should receive a copy of the student trip form, plus the appropriate fee. Trips should supply details of emergency contracts.
• Vehicle Insurance
Employees using their own vehicles for College purposes are required to maintain `Business Use' cover as past of their insurance. A copy of their policy should be provided annually to the College.
• Accidents
Details of all accidents should be notified to the College Safety Officer. He will notify Personnel of accidents to staff.
